Rules and Policies

DRESS CODE:
For ballet classes, all girls, are  to wear pink tights with feet attached, pink ballet slippers and a solid colored leotard. Underwear should not be worn under tights. Hair must be neatly secured into a ballet bun with a hairnet. Black tights are allowed for style classes. Jazz shoes and tap shoes must be purchased for these classes.  No jewelry, tutus, attached skirts, frills or street clothes. Boys are  to wear a solid colored t-shirt, black tights or shorts and black ballet slippers. Our studio dress code is a required policy for all child and teen students and should not be taken merely as a suggestion.

STUDIO CONDUCT:
Turning Pointe students are to carry themselves in a respectful manner.  No gum,  talking or leaning on  barres during class. The first 10 minutes of class are important because it provides a proper warm-up. For your safety and the respect of your fellow classmates any student arriving more than 10 minutes late will be asked to observe class.

PARENT OBSERVATION:

See calendar for Parent Observation Weeks.  During these weeks ONLY parents are invited to sit in the studio. To prevent distractions curtains and doors will otherwise be closed. Though parents’ intentions are undoubtedly good, a parent in the classroom distracts the student’s attention from the instructor. By restricting observation, improvement will be more apparent and Parent Observation Week will be special by creating a performance like atmosphere. We ask that parents practice leaving the studio once their child’s class has begun. Siblings must be supervised . If parents must stay, please keep talking and noise to a minimum. We ask parents to maintain a positive and enthusiastic interest in their child’s involvement in dance.  Our faculty has the best interest of each child in mind and we kindly ask you to respect and trust our decisions.  Upon request, instructors are happy to schedule a conference to discuss progress. Please do not conference with instructors between classes.

LEVEL PLACEMENT:

Age is to be used only as a guideline.  Level placement is at  the sole discretion of the Artistic Director.  During the first week of classes changes may occur to ensure that each individual student is in the appropriate level. Three year olds must be potty trained and be able to participate in class without  parental presence and be able to co-operate in a group situation.

PERFORMANCE:

Spring Performance dates will be announced in January. Costume fees will range between $35-$60 per costume and will be added to 3rd Quarter invoices. Due to students beginning to learn their routines in January, students registering after February 1st will not be able to participate in the Spring Performance without permission from the Artistic Director.

SNOW DAYS:

If Falmouth Public Schools declare a Snow Day, all classes will be cancelled.  Turning Pointe will not schedule make-up classes due to snow cancellations.  Students are welcome to make-up their cancelled class in another class of the same level.  In case of afternoon snow, Turning Pointe will not be responsible for calling parents to inform of snow cancellations. Please call the studio for an updated recording.

E-MAIL:

Turning Pointe uses e-mail to announce important information and to send tuition invoices.  Please provide us with a parent’s updated e-mail address. If you do not have an e-mail address it is your responsibility to check our bulletin boards for copies of our e-mails regarding important dates and information.

SCHOLARSHIP:

Turning Pointe has established a scholarship program.  Scholarship is awarded based on availability of funds, merit, and financial need.  Interested students must be registered for the year and must contact the Director  before September 1 for information on how to apply for scholarship.

TUITION PAYMENTS:

Tuition is payable in advance of the due date  unless arrangements have been made  prior to the first class.  Payments received after the due dates will be assessed a $20 late fee.   Students with delinquent accounts will be suspended from class or may not be able to participate in performances.  Turning Pointe will send tuition invoices via e-mail 10 days prior to due dates. These e-mails serve as friendly reminders. If you do not receive e-mail it is your responsibility to keep track of the quarterly tuition due dates listed in our calendar.

ATTENDANCE:

Regular attendance is important, especially when preparing for a performance. Excessive absence will hinder progress and may result in a change of level or removal from a performance dance out of respect for others in the class. Classes missed are not pro-rated or refunded. Students are welcome to make-up classes within 30 days of absence. Please speak with the Artistic Director regarding the best class to take as a make–up. Intensive Division students are required to make-up all missed classes.
